mornings at the farmers' market

A favorite thing to do on Saturday mornings in the summer.
Get on our bikes and ride to the nearest farmers' market to have breakfast,
pick up some fresh veggies & just wander around enjoying the buzz.

tulip song

It's Spring, everybody acts as if it's Summer and I like it.
The balcony is slowly transforming into a green paradise -
we've been planting all kinds of flowers and herbs - and bell peppers! Strawberries!

Backyard BBQs, riding our bikes around the city, ice cream, reading & eating outside, ...

Spring, I hope you're here to stay.

Some music:
Tune into BBC Radio 6 on weekends for Mary Anne Hobbs' new show,
listen to James Blake's new album,
or some old Nick Cave

monday funday

Easter weekend:
seeing family & friends,
wandering around the city for a bit,
playing some old school Nintendo,
watching Twin Peaks.

And a new Yeah Yeah Yeahs song.

the good things

Amazing window light and coffee at Café Meier - good Sunday combination.

Also pictured: Diptyque Feu de Bois - the whole house smells amazingly like chimney fire.

Thinking about Woody Allen's New York
and the Great Ocean Road in Australia /
so happy to be alive & traveling whenever I can /
can't wait to smell the ocean again... smell of complete freedom

(sometimes knowing I am free to go,
in theory at least,
makes me want to stay)

sundays

Photos of me by D

Weekends are always too short these days.
Hopefully going on a mini-vacation soon (think: cabin, fireplace, candles, bubble baths, snow... that's if I won't be tired of snow by then, which is likely since I tend to get tired of snow and winter and cold pretty quickly)

P.S. Cat in photo is less peaceful than he appears.

winter

I've been home sick this past week - while I was stuck inside for the most part, rewatching Gilmore Girls (guilty pleasure, obviously), the outside world was struck by some real winter magic.

Having grown up with lots of woods and open fields surrounding my parents' house, I naturally prefer winter in the countryside, but I've come to appreciate winter in the city too. At age 25 the desire to sleigh / build a snow man / have a snowball fight has subsided a little anyway, so I'm content just watching the snow flakes dance outside my window...

december

Before I even knew it it was December - candles were lit, Christmas songs were played in stores (something I tend to find kind of obnoxious unless it's actually the 24th), it snowed for the first time. With everything moving so fast, it seems I'm always just a little behind.

One thing I love about the holiday season is the fact that friends who live far away are slowly starting to return home, even if it's just for a few days.

And the colours and lights and hot tea on snowy, cold evenings.

And cookies, of course.

Here are some snippets of our new home. It's not 100% complete yet - are apartments ever? - but even without proper lighting it's already more comfortable and beautiful than anywhere I've lived before.
